Newest List of 10 most endangered rivers

Well, imagine SC being included in this list......if I am not mistaken, the Saluda River starts in Greenville SC right on the border of NC....hmmm. Wonder if the Tarheels are having any effect on the Saluda?

By the way, the Saluda River is a major Tributary of the Congaree River that flows through the Congaree National Park..........

6) Saluda River
Location: South Carolina
Excess levels of sewage waste threaten the drinking water of more than 500,000 South Carolina residents, conservationists say. Sewage in the river increases phosphorous and algae levels, depletes oxygen, and kills fish and other aquatic life. American Rivers is asking the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control to improve sewage-treatment standards and ensure the river reduces its phosphorous levels by 25 to 50 percent.

  1. Now this is a serious issue that must be dealt with. The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control should improve these conditions immediately. Fish are dying, oxygen is depleting and people are at risk. This is way more important than putting a giant mirror in space.

  3. Natalie...If I had to guess, I would say that the river feeds into a reservoir and that is the water source for drinking......but I will try to check that out.

  5. This is absolutely horrible!!! Surely people plan to take up for their own rivers and lakes.

  6. What is this world coming too? Why are all the people who actually might have an influence in legislature complete idiots? Do they not realize what they are doing? Fix it! Gosh, this makes me mad to? What are going to happen to all the people in the meanwhile? What happens if the problems aren't fixed? Do these people not think anything through anymore? Gosh! It ticks me off how people are so careless and selfish!

  8. This is some bad bad stuff. Just think of people living on the river and how it must look and smell. I would move and move fast and far away but my luck I would end up on a toxic wast dump, Stuff like this should have serious consequences but red tape and slow courts makes it impossible for the bad to be punished.
