We have been invited to be a part of NASA's Globe at night. It will run from 16 March through 28 March so it will be fun to see the difference in the sky from the earlier date through Earth Hour.
This is not an optional assignment! You can pick the times based on what your work schedules etc. Try to make your observations at the same time every evening.
Please go to the site and download a form for the nights that you will track the stars. The site is self explanatory and very easy to follow. I will need the sheets or at least a piece of notebook paper with all the information on it that you have kept for the time that the assignment covers.
Your paperwork is due to me on 30 March. However, if you are not going to post the data yourself, I need to have the information the day after you do your observations.
Find your location by using the link on the homepage for the project.
Ex: LHS is at 35.479 degrees N. Latitude
-81.26 degrees W. Longitude ( the - sign indicates a west longitudinal direction)

Natalie,
ReplyDeleteYou have no idea! I cannot begin to express how proud I am of all of you tonight - whether you spoke or just your prescence created a level of solidarity...you are all very very special people and I will never forget any of you.....
WOW! Tonight was amazing you took your ideas and put them into action. The next few weeks and I mean few weeks will be so full you may have trouble breathing. I am proud of each and every one of you. You hold a special place in my heart and have for a long time. Thank you for accepting a Mom as a part of your class and teaching me things I never understood. Mrs. B you never cease to amaze me, you are an awesome teacher and friend.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Olivia. I laid in the snow the other night looking at the stars but I bet it's so much prettier when there aren't a bunch of light blocking them out!! :)
I can't wait to start this new star gazing experience. It sounds like so much fun!
ReplyDeletethanks Caitlin,
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy it. It really is pretty interesting. If you all get into the star end of things, we can plan a trip to the Maiden Observatory if you want to....this is at night, of course!
Are we going to do a little something on the 28 when we try to put together the big thing for earth hour
ReplyDeleteAriel,
ReplyDeleteSuch as? Oh by the way.....ponder the sky in Nova Scotia.......
Nova Scotia sky will be the junk! But im also excited to observe the sky in my own backyard...this should be fun and interesting
ReplyDeletei was lookingg at the stars the other night when it was snowingg too (: this sounds pretty cool & its ties in perfectly with our Earth Hour thing going on here.
ReplyDeleteI can't find the forms on the GLOBE website that yr talking about.
ReplyDeleteLets watcha us some stars. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAshton,
ReplyDeleteDo not fear...they won't be up until the 15th or 16th of March. You can look at the charts that they want you to use for comparisons and start becoming familiar with the constellation ...
i cant wait, this gives me another excuse to sit on my roof at night!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds very exciting! But we will go over this more in class right?
ReplyDeletethis is gonna be awesome!
ReplyDeleteIm exited! I look up a lot, so I might as well get an A for it.
ReplyDeleteAnna,
ReplyDeleteLooking up is ALWAYS a good thing!!
Is ther suppose to be a blue moon soon???
ReplyDeleteBlue moon happens very infrequently.....next date:
ReplyDeleteTwo blue moons will be occurring in 2018....so some folks will just have to wait...
This new project sounds like fun, the sky at night is really cool
ReplyDeleteGood question Ashton because I couldn't find what it was talking about either. Also, I think that the trip to the observatory doesn't sound like a bad idea, it's cool to see things like this!
ReplyDeleteThis will be fun; I have always been interested in the cosmos.
ReplyDeletethis will be lots of fun and very cool i have never looked through a tethascope haha
ReplyDeleteLogan can i go on your roof too? This should be neat to see how the sky changes in that short period of time.
ReplyDeleteLogan,
ReplyDeleteBecareful , your roof could end up with way too many people......
This could be a fun birthday present. My birthday is the sixteenth.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we will see northern lights or something and in response have telescopes set up in the parking lot for the people to look up at the sky through
ReplyDeleteare we supposed to print the charts out...??? if so im going to need a copy of them because i have no printer...ps looking up at the night sky is one of my favorite past times
ReplyDeletei knoq this star gazing thing is going to be awesome!
ReplyDeleteStar-gazing? I can't tell what all those little things are!!!! I like to look up in the sky, but that doesn't mean i can distinguish the constalations. I promise to do my best for you though Mrs. B.
ReplyDeleteHow do you download the form from the link? this is for anyone who might possible know.
ReplyDeleteMollie you have to go to magnitude charts its under observe and i just printed it the whole page out
